Recently I had the opportunity to meet up with Sky, a photographer and owner of the online vintage shop, Kagami Vintage! I’d heard about Sky and Kagami Vintage a few months ago when I was out in Denver shooting with Katha, saw she lived out on the Western Slope, and started following her on Instagram!

I ended up replying to her instagram story one day saying something along the lines of “I know this sounds totally creepy but I’m pretty sure we live in the same complex”.

And viola! The rest is history.

So we met up on a sunny afternoon in our home town of Grand Junction to adventure around and shoot some sunset portraits! It was so fun to drive around the city, finding all of these picturesque places to shoot. We ended up shooting for about 2 1/2 hours, finding ourselves on the sides of roads and in little parks around the city that I had never known about.

Finding new locations to shoot at can always be a daunting task, especially in Colorado where there is so much beauty around. I love shooting in places like Moab and Ouray, but I also love the challenge in shooting in places that aren’t typically thought of. I like that you can look at this set of images and not know that it was shot in Grand Junction, I feel like it is total midwest vibes, and I love the challenge of working in this setting because truth be told, it’s not a challenge at all. I’d like to think that growing up in Ohio lent a hand to being able to appreciate all of these places for their beauty. It’s become important to me that when shooting portraits and couples, that the photos can stand on their own, no matter the location it was shot in.
