Intimate Winter Wedding at Hotel Imogene in Ouray

J & A originally wanted to get married in Marble, Colorado, but after some unforeseen life circumstances and A getting deployed to Africa, they decided sooner was better and tied the knot amongst their closest friends and family at an intimate wedding in Ouray, Colorado.

Wanting a day filled with laughter with each other and conversation with friends and family, they rented out the iconic Hotel Imogene to celebrate their intimate wedding weekend. The weekend was as low stress as possible and of course started with a dip in the local hot spring before their wedding day.

When planning a winter elopement in Colorado you want to be prepared for everything because anything can happen, and for J & A’s wedding day, a lot did happen. Five days before their wedding date the San Juan Mountains got so much snow that CDOT had to do avalanche mitigation on the highway, effectively shutting off our access to their planned ceremony location. They were SUCH troopers though and the day before their wedding date learned that the highway was planned to be reopened!

We started their wedding day with getting ready photos, J’s mom helping her into her dress and A writing his vows while family mingled about. They had an intimate first look at the beautifully photogenic Hotel Imogene before we all headed up the mountains to their ceremony site!

Another aspect of smaller weddings in the winter in Colorado is accessibility and they tackled that too! Knowing they had about 20 guests they wanted at their ceremony at 11,000 feet, they know after fresh snow that guests would either have to rent snowshoes or risk post-holing their way to the ceremony site in 2 feet of snow. To help the trek out to the location go smoothly, A and his family headed out the morning of their wedding day to pack down the area with their snow shoes and it worked!

After their beautiful ceremony where J’s brother officiated, we headed off on our own so they could share their personal vows to each other in a more intimate setting. We shared laughs about hot Cheetos, guessed the names of mountain peaks, and spent time wandering around the beautifully 30 degree day before heading back to Hotel Imogene to celebrate with their friends and family.
