Utah Family Portraits | Moab with Tiana Moser Photo and Family
You know those desert days when it is so hot that you look at the day as a timeline of what you can do before the sweat starts rolling down your back, and midday is the time you spend in search of water to waste the day in? That is Moab in the summer.
Thankfully the Colorado River winds its way through much of the area, with washes and streams cutting paths through sandstone, creating tiny desert oasis’s amongst the towering cliffs and walls. This is where I find relief in the hot summers of Moab, and there is no shortage of these this year with the raging river and overflowing snowmelt coming down from the La Sal range.
These washes became the perfect place to cool off during a midsummer family portrait session with Tiana Moser and her family. Tiana is a wedding and adventure photographer out of Bentonville, Arkansas but she and her husband Jesse are originally from Utah. Tiana and I connected through a facebook group for adventure photographers, where she was looking for a photographer to work with while they were vacationing in Moab. They ended up driving through the night to meet me at Lions Park on no sleep, and following me up into one of my favorite little towns outside of Moab, Castle Valley, for their portrait session!
We wandered around Castle Valley, a little town north east of Moab, in search of shade and trails. We arrived at one trailhead with an amazing view of the La Sals and Castleton Tower, before heading off to another familiar spot of tall trees and shade. Our last, and my favorite location was a muddy wash between Onion Creek and the Colorado River where we sat in the calm waters while watching rafters go over the rapids in the river a hundred yards away. Tiana, Jesse and their son Elliot splashed around in the water until we eventually all sat around chatting about family, travel, and photography.
It was so much fun meeting these two, I can’t express how happy it makes me to meet people who are just as passionate about exploring the outdoors. I feel like these photos are the perfect mix of lifestyle and documentary, capturing the love between Tiana and Jesse, and the fun they have as a family pursuing a life travel and adventure.
